Face to Face Story
Face to Face Story
A compelling installation based on the life of Michelle Fox, who wears a facial prosthetic due to near fatal gun injury.

A shotgun blast took away Michelle’s eyes, nose, and upper palate, leaving her permanently blind and unable to smell.

Years of photojournalism and audio interviews work in tandem with the art of virtual reality, as guests freely explore an immersive three-act installation.

WORLD PREMIERE

FACE TO FACE was chosen from a record number of highest quality entries to be awarded the 2018 Alternate Realities Commission  and the Alternate Realties: Virtual Reality Award

To be considered, projects had to be immersive or interactive documentaries, push the boundaries of what is technically possible within factual storytelling, and demonstrate a strong commitment to innovation in the realm of non-fiction.

OUR STORIES

I thrive on stories about remarkable, everyday people AND HAVE Collaborated with Michelle and her family making photographs and recording audio SINCE 2014. I AM in their debt.

While I’ve documented MICHELLE's life by photographing both day-to-day and profound moments, FACE to FACE allows viewers to step inside THE experience and view some of those moments directly from her perspective.

I’m grateful for Michaela HollanD's Collaboration in bringing this intimate immersive installation to life AND AM HAPPY TO SHARE MICHELLE's STORY THROUGH FACE TO FACE WITH SHEFFIELD GUESTS IN JUNE.

-Michelle Gabel, photojournalist

Working for the Walt Disney company sparked my interests in building stories that blend multiple storytelling methods.

As a woman working in virtual and augmented reality journalism, I am humbled to have been invited by Michelle Gabel to collaborate and create the more avant-garde vision for this intense, and unbelievable story.

I believe FACE TO FACE embodies a new genre of compassionate, non-fiction storytelling, and that it will leave an impact on every single guest we host at Sheffield this June.
